as much as he has a dig, kidd's spot on about the way fans were treated. not a bad article even though at times he comes across as a wet lettuce

'A regular song lamented that ‘East London was like Bengal’ - this a re-working of a crudely sexist chant.'

Isn't it opposition fans that sing that?

Re: Journalist scared of Upton Park, won't miss it....
some extracts...

''Upton Park was a special place for me.

The place where I first witnessed serious violence, hardcore racism, drug-taking, frightening levels of crushing and the warm feeling of having your leg urinated upon by a man who was never going to travel across a sea of humanity to the toilets at the sides of the North Bank.

So there’ll be no misty water-coloured memories from behind rose-tinted specs about the fact that West Ham won’t play any more matches there after Tuesday night’s visit from Manchester United .....

When I used to go, the hateful National Front were there.

A regular song lamented that ‘East London was like Bengal’ - this a re-working of a crudely sexist chant.

When Spurs visited there were songs about gassing Jews; always there were songs about carrying knives and baseball bats....''

What song did we used to chant in late 80s and early 90s that he's referring to:

"A regular song lamented that ‘East London was like Bengal’ - this a re-working of a crudely sexist chant."

That's the time period I went almost every week home and away, I have no recollection of that.

Marston

I know the "oh east London", 'crudely sexist chant' as he puts it.

But did we ever chant
"Oh east London, is like Bengal..."?? Really? I have no recollection of that ever.

We didn't, at least as I've never heard it. Heard plenty of Chelsea/Tottenham etc fans sing it.

I did always wonder why there were so many West Ham fans in Fleet St.

Awful article by a fucking absolute fist.

One of the most embarrassing points he made was that Leicester City are the only club to bring an 'old school' atmosphere to their new stadium.

They dress-up as their fox mascot and bang happy-clappers together, for fuck's sake, like the complete post-96 divs that they are.
